I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues

Sometimes, when I am putting together a "Look Of The Day" for my blog, things just seem to come together almost organically. Other times, not so much. When I try to really work a mash-up, I try to think outside the 'folder' so to speak, taking things that normally would not occur to me, and reworking them. I occasionally have some success with this exercise, other times, it just turns out all wrong. This look has literally been sitting in a draft form since November of last year when I wore it, I just wasn't completely certain I was happy with it. I love all the individual parts, I love most of it, but I am not sure it it works as one look, and that was holding me back a bit. Afraid of being judged for a less then stellar post, I was my own editor, and held back. Today, I decided that the exercise itself was interesting, and that I should just go for it and accept that I am not perfect. This look may be a mistake in someone's eyes, and maybe that is a good thing to reveal, that even those that are known for doing it 'right' occasionally are unsure if they have.



This look started with the need to craft a look based in the colour blue for an event at PIN UPS. I started the way I always do, typing the word "blue" into search, and seeing what comes up. The first thing I hit on was a dress from *DP Serendipity, the Amenohini_Odekake dress. I had forgotten about it, like so many other things I own, and when I threw it on realized it had some blue in it, but was not exactly what I had imagined. I liked it though, well enough to try to work with the top of the dress and see what I could do with it. The striped top is from the dress, which is adorable and as you can see, versatile. It is actually strapless, the tiny straps you see are part of it, so I wanted something more to cover my arms, but it had to be on the undershirt layer. I have no idea how I aquired it, but was lucky to find a Leotard Set from (PixelDolls), it was likely a freebie at some point, and this one was in pink, but tinted up beautifully to an almost exact match to the blue. Joy! I went with a high-waisted Pencil Skirt from Ingenue, here in a lovely Aubergine, making use of the jacket layer for the upper part of the skirt. I get all excited seeing the possibilities of layers, what can I say. I pulled in more blue with some [MG Fashion] socks, and tied it all down with some great ETD Shoes ankle boots.



I was dying to wear this great huge Statement Necklace from Paper Couture, so may have rushed it a bit, but it was too fabulous to resist really. It is one of the parts that has me scratching my head as to it's success in this look. Some big stacked bangles from .+*aya V.*+., which I modded slightly to match, a basic hoop earring, and my engagement ring round out my accessories. I have to say that this Jaden Bag from Cachet is a favorite of mine, I own it in two colour variations, and just love the shape and shading/texturing of it.

I admit I got away from the "blue" intentions of the look, so made a save with this huge-tastic hair from Pudge:. Bowie's in Space in a great Blue Black shade is a big, lopsided pile of love. The lovely porcelain-like skin is from [RockBerry], eyes are Freak Fantasia, while Lashes hail from Celestial Studios. Feel free to let me know whether this look is a hit or a miss for you, I am still on the fence. But I think a little glimpse into the process of creating a mash-up, a willingness to make mistakes, and the guts to put it out there for public scrutiny (or as public as things get on my little blog here) is a good thing.

Arabian Nights

I don't wear silks often, really they are just reserved for the events at PIN UPS, but I have to say that finding modest silks is a real challenge. They are not meant to cover very much, I realize this of course. I see so many sets of silks where they are all prim parts, and nothing is left to the imagination once someone starts dancing. It makes finding silks a whole challenge for me, because I want the coverage, for me it is a chance to dress up, not show off the goods. I have found a couple of great silks designers that are conscious of the fact that some women are looking for coverage, and I think that Solange/The Silk Raven is one of those places. I have many sets of silks from *TSR*, and they are relatively up there in price range, but the colour options, quality, and variations in each costume are well worth it.



One of my favorite sets is this amazing Kadin set by *TSR*. The Blue and Silver version was my choice, but it comes in a dozen great colours and has a gold accented version as well. All these looks come from the same purchase. It comes with a system top, a full pant or thong type bottom layer that actually covers your bits, and then 4 different 'skirt' styles. The four include the short and long hip scarf options, as well as the short and long prim skirts. The vest is optional, but the work on it is exceptional, I just love the look of the back of it, the texture is exceptional, and the seems line up so well, you really do get what you pay for in this set. It also includes the lovely face veil and the beaded circlet on the forehead. Really very sexy, and still covering me enough that I feel comfortable wearing them to an event at the club.



I opted to layer on the Jewelry here, going for the lavish harem girl look full throttle, and went with this adorable Pure Butterfly Bellyring and Necklace from Caithlin Carter Designs. The fine prim work is really well done, and they are lovely feminine pieces. Ephemeral Creations Jangle Bangles in Steel stacked up nicely on my wrists, some great thin stacks of bangles and they also come in so many great colour options. I pulled on some stunning rings, the Catherine Black Pearl Cocktail Ring in Platinum from ~Muse~ is a particular favorite, I am a sucker for dark Tahitian pearls in RL as well. Also wearing my Caroline's Jewelry Gimcrack Diamond Solitaire Ring.



This Tiana wig is one of Elika's newer releases from ETD, simply lovely and soft and feminine, I think it has to be one of my favorites. I thought it worked really well with the veil here, really a great romantic look. I played up my eyes, opting for [Detour]'s Delta Eyes in Blue which seem stunning here. The skin is a lovely Megan Skin from [Rockberry].

Just my take on how to do silks for the modest girls among us. I love to play dress up, and finding ways to bring fantasy looks like this into my wardrobe is what I love best about my virtual life. I think it can be said that the vest from this top would look stunning over a black blouse, and I can see it working in other looks as well, which is always a plus when you invest in one outfit as costume specific as most silks are.

Getting It Down On Paper

I knew that once Paper Couture released a new collection, it would be all over the feeds in minutes, and I also knew I would be there to check it out withing hours of it's release. It's the way things seem to go on the feeds, everyone wants to show off the latest and greatest, and it's great to see the clothes on avatars, it gives us a much better idea of how they look then an image on a rack. I think the new collection is far more wearable then the last, and the jewelry is spectacular. As an avid collector of purses, I await their release, hopefully soon. Last collection, I snapped up a lot of the releases, and sadly they still sit in my inventory, unworn. This time I was really careful with my selections, as money grows tight and I am more realistic about what I can actually get around to wearing. I purchased one dress, one pantsuit, and about five pieces of jewelry. I wanted items I loved, but I wanted items I could work as separates too, and the Nightingale outfit was my first choice. I love this Silk Top, a long camisole that comes as part of the set. I think the hand painted ruffle down the front is great, so I opted to wear it apart from the rest of the outfit this time.



I knew that wearing the Silk Top alone would look to bare for this time of year, so I went looking for a Bolero, and came up with this one from Ibizarre, part of the Soroya Jumpsuit set. A really nice texture on it, and the wrap look lends itself well to a brooch closure. This (Dahlinks) Classic Diamond Studded Bow Brooch in Silver is a lovely piece, really incredibly well made, and so very like ones in my mother's jewelry box. I think the brooch is one piece of jewelry we see little of in-world, and I love finding them, they are such a versatile accessory. I wanted to wear a classic pair of slacks, and these Blaze* Highwaist Jeans in Charcoal are a great option.



I pulled on a favorite pair of suede Nichelle Pumps in Black from Lya, absolutely love the shape of these shoes. I also pulled in a nicely textured Black Velour Clutch from *Muism*. I went with silver and black earrings from *kraftika, the No. 127 Earrings in Silver. (Caroline's) Gimcrack Diamond Solitaire Ring is always a favorite stunner.

Hair is the new Yvette style from ETD, a nice casual up-do with exposed ears, so it works nicely with earrings. This is one of the new Mia skins from [RockBerry], I really love the full lips on these skins. Hazel Eyes are from Miriel, and Love Lashes are from [Detour].

One thing that makes Paper Couture really desirable is that they do retire styles, which is not usual in-world. Most people sell the same things year after year, season after season. It lends an air of urgency to shopping at Paper Couture, get it before it disappears. Instead of a bigger build to house all the designs from past seasons, they maintain a boutique feel, while still offering reasonably priced and imaginative high-concept collections. The clothes are like collectible pieces of art, season after season, and worth a look even if there is nothing that tickles your fancy.

Piles Of Curls Make For Sexy Girls

I have been a bit awol, what with all the work for the Retrology Anniversary Events, but I only missed a couple of days, so I think I can forgive myself. This look is one of my favorites, and it is largely due to this unbelievably sexy wig from *booN. This big mass of glossy curls is *booN's KAR07 Hair, I love that is is all over the place mussy, and looks really wild, the volume of it is fantastic, each individual curl looks polished and still soft and touchable. *booN has some seriously fantastic hair, and I can't believe I had never been before I ventured over about two weeks ago. Sexy hair like this calls for a sexy look, and this amazing Meredith top and high-waisted skirt set. *AnnaH* makes some seriously wonderful things, and I picked this up back at the last RFL Clothing Fair. I simply love the Green Satin top, just a perfect shade of green, and there are fantastic details on the Navy Blue Skirt.

I found the perfect Navy Shoes to match this look, although it took me about ten tries, but TESLA's Leather Vixens in Blueberry were perfection. TESLA has shoes in pretty much every colour you could ever want, and her prices are well within reach for most of us, it is a pleasure to see every new release she has, particularly since I love her styles and colours so very much. This bag was well due for it's turn out of the closet, the *Musim* Crocodile Skin Handbag in Green is just another one of the great bags they offer, and they have so many to choose from, I dare you to walk away with just one!



The Necklace and Earrings are another absolutely brilliant set from ~Muse~, sold separately they are simply incredible works of art. The prim work is masterful on this Jade and Gold Chinoiserie Collection, and the delicate beads and fans so lovely. I am wearing another fabulous piece from {Junk}, this Tangled Antique Gold Bangle is really just a great item to have in my Jewelry box, it is perfect to wear as a compliment to other more intricate Gold accented pieces.

Lashes are the flirty and sexy Club 1 Set from Celestial Studios, and Eye are Glassy Mustard Green beauties from Freak Fantasia.

Golden Ruched Ruffles

The day that Myllie Writer released her newest creation for *PERSONA*, this fabulous Debutant Dress, I ran into her while she was setting out the vendors on Retrology. Needless to say I was smitten, the colour choices were brilliant, and I went for the Gold like only an Olympian could. Myllie dropped this sweet minidress on me, and I couldn't wait to slip into it. I love the ruffle at mid-thigh level, really sweet and flirty. The ruched detail down the front is really well done, and I love the appearance of a zipper in the back of the dress. Little details like that make *PERSONA* a favorite for me.

I decided to go for an equally sweet shoe, this pair of Yellow Mary Squares Shoes from .:Periquita are an almost perfect match. I have these in a fatpack, and they are just so well done, I wear them all the time, the colour options are great. The turquoise buttons on the shoes let me bring in some more turquoise in my accessories. This great almost tribal Necklace and Bracelet set from *::UM::*, which is located close to Mirrors & Mirai Style in Takaraduka. I love this Wood + Turquoise Set is really funky, and I think adds some edge to the sweet factor in this look. I threw on some great Bead Hoop Earrings from /artilleri/, which are scripted to change colour with a click. They are endlessly useful. The bag again brings in the turquoise accent, a sweet Beaded Purse from Pampered Princess.



This yuruyuru odango hair has been on my list of "To Get" for a long time, so when I finally made it to *SHOP SEU* last week, I was sure to snap it up. It is really cute, and such a memorable style, very girly. Skin is from [RockBerry], another great make-up, and I love the Dark Brows version of these skins. Bedroom Lashes are from Cake, and Delta Eyes in Hazel are from [Detour].

Last Call For The Office Party

Recently, we had a "Sexy Office Party" at PIN UPS, and I always wear a skirt suit to this event, however with skirt glitches still plaguing us all, I opted for a pant suit. Sadly, this one is no longer available as *LAST CALL is no more, but it is still a brilliant example of Ginny Talamasca's work and I love it dearly. You may be able to find this Kerry Pantsuit in Re-Sale Shops, as the final days at Last Call saw people snapping up tons of inventory, all of it Transferable, so if you happen to come upon a great Re-Sale shop, look for the *LAST CALL Items, they are treasures. This look came complete with the lovely Cameo Necklace, so pretty and just the perfect compliment to the look. Classy and Ladylike, and still very sexy, this is Business Wear that Goes into an Evening Look seamlessly.

This look was a breeze to accessories, you can't go to the office without your brief case and Baiastice sells a pile of great bags, this Borso Lavoro Workbag comes in a set of two great colours. The simple thin Layered Bangles are from OPIUM Everyday, I love that they have pink, white, and yellow gold in them so they can be worn with almost any other jewelry. I am wearing my Drifting Sands Tunnel Multi-Set Earrings, just to add a little edge to my look, and my Gimcrack Diamond Solitaire Ring from Caroline's.



This wig is another great new style from Dernier Cri. Kaitlyn is a great loose bun, placed to the side, and the shaggy bangs are a nice touch to soften the look. The hair from Dernier Cri is always a blast to Demo, as the Colour Changing HUD is so fun, you get to see the style in dozens of possible shades before you settle on the one you want and decide if the style is for you. Skin is from [RockBerry], I am really finding myself wearing them almost exclusively, despite the fact that this Light skintone is darker then any skin I have ever worn. Where Are My Eyes?

Who knew you could not wear eyes? Not me that's for sure! I was in a rush after a shoot with Nyla Rossini for my Vain Inc. Magazine Staff Picture, and removed all the items in the outfit folder I made for the occasion (a trick Anessa taught me). I quickly threw on what I had been wearing before, and jumped into my wee studio for some shots before changing into my costume for the night's Event at PIN UPS. I didn't notice till I was writing down what I was wearing, that I was infact not wearing eyes, and a jump into Edit>Appearance confirmed that they were "Not Worn", who knew? Won't make that mistake again. In any case, I am apparently wearing someone's eyes, if not my own, they belong to David Bowie on the fabulous Bowie Dress from EMERY. I always love a rock chick look, and EMERY has some of the best to be found on the grid. I paired the top with some slick looking Shiny Shiny Magic Pants from Fashionably Dead, they are tintable, but I kept them as is for the awesome liquid silver look.

I opted for red accessories for the most part, starting with these brilliant Red Glamour Metallic Pumps from [Detour], I do love a pointy toed pump! I also pulled in one of my Celestial Studios Hobo Bags, this one in Patent Cherry was a group gift back around Valentines, but I do believe you can pick one up at the shop too. To compliment the rocker look, I have this great Micci Set on from /artilleri/, I really love it, the tiny microphone Necklace and Earrings are so sweet, and I marvel at how Antie managed to get them so small and texture them so well. I pulled on this great chunky Mod Love Ring from Kandy Kitty, and stacks of Black Jelly Bracelets from Overdose/Punk by Proxy.



Hair is another great style from *booN, the UZU22 in Black is really a nice funky little casual style, I think it works really well here. Another great [RockBerry] Skin, and I can't stress enough that you must go and try them. They may not work on everyone's shape, but for only $800LaLas, you get six skins/make-ups and that is a real steal, these skins are simply fabulous and growing on me more everyday. Lashes are from Cake, the Separated Lashes really give some oomph to the eyes, especially since I am not wearing any!

Pretty Pastels And Petals

Whenever I stop by [MG Fashion] to see what's new, I have one huge problem. I am spoiled for choice. OK, maybe not a huge problem, but Maria Gherardi always offers us so many colour variations, that it makes it very hard to choose just one. This sweet Light Purple Gigi Tank Top is no exception, coming in about a dozen soft pretty shades. It is really nicely hand-painted, the shading is well done, just a lovely little summer top. When my sister Anessa sent me a teleport to *Beauty Avatar* the first time, I zeroed in on this soft green pair of PINGU-18 Jeans. I always gravitate to green, but this colour in particular is really soft and fresh. Similar to [MG Fashion], *Beauty Avatar* offers these sweet slacks in a dozen or more awesome colours. I love to be spoiled for choice!

At the recent Footwear Expo, I snapped up this sweet pair of Athena Sandals in Green from *HUB*. A nice low heeled summer sandal with a really interesting crisscrossed strap. I went with a white bag to work with the white in the system belt on the jeans, The Blossom Bag from Paper Couture is a fresh and feminine bag. I have had this amazing Petal Meg Hydrangea Petal Necklace for almost a year, and I love wearing it. Fuscia Jewell brings her real-world flower petal creations in-world, and they are unlike anything else I have seen. They have that missing organic piece that we all long for in second life. This Cosmetic Chain Bracelet is from ::MEZZO::, and after seeing it on the feed last week, I went off in search of it. It is an adorable charm bracelet with little cosmetics, mirrors, and make-up bags dangling from the chain. It comes in several metal options and sizes for both wrists in one box for practically peanuts in the LaLa department. I have to warn you though, ::MEZZO:: is a jewelry lovers dream, so much great stuff to grab up, I assure you you will see the half a dozen items I bought on my trip very soon.



This hair is the edgy but sweet Again from Magika Hair. I love that it looks like a rough shag from the front, yet has the long braid in the back too. The skin is [RockBerry] Stage 4 with Dark Brows, I am seriously crushing on these skins. Love Lashes are from [Detour], Hazel Eyes from (Miriel). A pretty and feminine look with little bit of edge.

Who's A Rockstar?

There are a very few places on the grid that put great separates together to give you one brilliant look that you want to wear as is. I buy a lot of combo looks, but usually pull them apart and mix them up, or I buy things separately and put my own spin on them. The one place that always seems to hit the mark for me is amerie's Naughty. I hadn't been in ages, and decided to check it out last week on a whim. I am so glad I did! This amazing Plastic Punker outfit is precisely the sort of look I find irresistible. It is funky, unique, and so cool. I love the jacket, it is simple amazing, with the feathered fur looking sleeves and tail, and the open front. It could work with a number of other looks too, but I liked the stripped tank that came with it, and it is really interesting with the red smeared hand print looking tattoo. The plaid shorts are punky and I love the laced detail on the one side. amerie's Naughty always combines system layers and prim work so well. The outfit came with a leg warmer too, but I opted not to wear them, simply because I prefer fishnets with a rocker look. These are some of the great Over The Knee Fishnets from Celestial Studios Lulu line. The Grays pack comes with three pair, including the Black I am wearing. Lulu is a great place to go if you are looking for coloured items, since the store is arranged by colour family and the socks all come in three packs of fabulous.

I wanted to pile on some chunky showy accessories, and pulled in this [Armidi Gisaci] Niama Necklace is this blackened Gunmetal tone. I love these (CREAMSHOP) Skull Rhinestone Earrings, they are a little bit Rock N' Roll a little bit pirate, and a lot a bit cute. I am also wearing the KaNdy Kitty Mod Love Ring, which is super sweet and really huge. I am always on the look for great big right handed rings, so if anyone has any hot shop tips, hit me up. The boots are the hunky Chunky Ribbon Boots from (Shiny Things), a great investment with the Colour Change Ribbons that you can tint with the click of a mouse on the Hud, there are dozens of colour choices, and you can tint each boot separately if you wish.



The Dare wig was one I picked up a few releases back from Diversity Hair, it's a great combinations of height, curls, and really worked well with this Rockstar look I have going. Skin is another great one from [RockBerry], I am loving these Stage 4 Skins, I can't believe how great they are priced. Worth a look for sure, I mean, where else can you get 6 make-ups for $800LaLas! Off The Shoulder, Off The Cuff

Last time I seriously shopped :Bijou:, I wandered around a bit and came upon a shop called Mirrors* next door, and of course Mirai Hair. The whole sim is really a unique shopping experience, and seems to be very different from what is going on trend-wise on the rest of the grid. The Hair is bigger and more street, the fashion fierce and playful, and the colours bright. When I saw this Off The Shoulder Top from Mirrors*, I went right for the Green, as I usually do. I really liked the casual look of this top/mini-dress and especially the sexy exposed back with the system gold chain across it. I loved that it came with the looped belt, and that there were several versions of the top (with or without the black trim) in the pack. The thing that really is adorable about it, is the saying across the front, which is something along the lines of "All Men Are Brothers Like The Seas Throughout the World, So Why Do Winds And Waves Clash so Fiercely Everywhere?". Not sure I get it, but it interesting anyways.

I decided to pull in some adorable Dotted Leggings from Surf Couture by Emma Gilmour, just a fun staple to have, and I like that it is in the same colour family, but not an exact match. It gave me a reason to pull in these awesome ETD Starley Pumps in Funky Teal, I love that these shoes are a great casual pump with some glitz, they just work. I went with some gold accessories to match the golden belt that came with the top, and opted for this great .+*aya V.*+. Gold Bracelet, which I edited by selecting linked parts, and simply tinted the white part of the one large bangle to teal. I also pulled in this amazing sculptie necklace from ::69::, this chunky Luv Necklace in Gold really has a cool street diva feel to it. Also wearing my Caroline's Jewelry Gimcrack Diamond Solitaire Ring.



This hair has been with me for some time, I think I may have picked it up in a fatpack for next to nothing at the opening of the Starlust Hotel, I love my Hiccup Poses, but this Electric Feel Hair with Hat is really cool and relaxed. I really like the texture in the hat. The skin is another great one from the new [RockBerry] Stage 4 line, I am really liking these skins, and although this is the lightest skin tone (I usually go for a much paler look) I like the look enough to wear it darker then I might usually. Love Lashes are [Detour], and eyes are my favorite Gem like Miriel Big Hazel Eyes.

Rockin' The Zebra

Today, Neferia Abel is Celebrating Her Birthday, and when Nef celebrates, she usually does it with a Sale. Today is no exception, Nef has reduced one each Release down by 50%, I don't know which particular colours, but I do know it is time to shop! On my last trip to the fabulous new ~~Ivalde~~ Store, I picked up this great Ingridr Dress in Zebra. I love the way Nef is using sculpties for her poofy dresses, they are really adorable, and in this case sexy too. This has to be one of my favorite party dresses from ~~Ivalde~~, and I love the Zebra print, makes it all the more wild, but it also comes in 4 solid colours too. The one shoulder dress is really on trend right now. Nef also released a line of system belts last week, and I decided to wear one with this dress to add a little more pizazz. The ~~Ivalde~~ Efoy Belt in Gold is a nice touch of glitz, and it comes in a four pack of colours, so you have tons of options. Make sure you hit ~~Ivalde~~ before the Birthday Sale ends in less then 24 Hours!

I received a review pack of [RockBerry] Skins this week from Heather Beebe, she has sent them to me in the past, and although really nice, they just didn't look enough like me to wear. This Stage 4 Set really got me, I think they look great on me, and look like a cross between my two of my other favorites Celestial Studios and bianca F. What makes these skins really impressive is the price of $800LaLas. That is not the price for one skin, that is for a pack of 6 make-ups! Worth a look if you are a skin addict, or working on a budget. I really love the shape of these lips.



I am thrilled to be wearing the new Maitreya Virtue Heels, currently only available at the Footwear Expo, they are so sexy in the Patent Black, I really hope Onyx LeShelle releases them in more colours after the expo, they are fantastic and such a sexy shape. With the puffy shoulder and the glitz belt, I decided to go easy on the rest of my accessories, choosing an organic pair of Carollin Dangle Earrings from -EARTHTONES-, and these great Texture Change Wooden Bracelets from /artilleri/ that were a treasure from the Retrology Mother's Day Rose Hunt, and I am not sure whether they are available in-store or not. Also wearing my Caroline's Gimcrack Diamond Solitaire Ring.

This amazing wild hair is from Mirai, who really does big funky hair best, this .+*Jule*+. style is really wild, and a nice compliment to the animal print dress. Lashes are Celestial Studios Prim Lashes Club 10, and eyes are Miriel's Big Hazel Eyes.
