Today is the final day of Hair Fair 2014, and the past two weeks have flown by so quickly. I have done over 25 individual posts featuring just some of the amazing hair from this year's Fair. So much wonderful hair, so many amazing gifts and dollarbies, and so much good done for the Fair's charity of choice Wigs for Kids. As is tradition, the final day of the fair is dedicated to Bandana Day.
Today is the day to flip your wig, literally, and wear one of the dozens of Bandanas sold at Hair Fair 2014 for just a small $50L donation, a donation that gives 100% of it's price directly to the Wigs for Kids charity. Wear a bandana, or two, or 16 as I have, to show you care about the cause. Wigs for Kids works hard to give deserving kids a wig that allows them to live their lives and feel like every other child does, normal. Children endure hair loss for many of the same reasons adults do, be it from a medical treatment, from a health condition like Alopecia, or from a trauma such as a burn. Unlike adults, many cannot understand their loss, and are often stigmatized among their peers to a great degree. Pick up one of the many lovely Bandanas at the final day of Hair Fair 2014 and show you support the fight to return a sense of normalcy to the life of a child who just wants to be care-free and live their life. It is a small gesture, but it means so very much.

When the air gets humid on a hot summer night, I have to fight the frizz. It's an East Coast summer problem, a never ending battle. But what if those of us with all that naturally tamed curl just let it go wild. I think it would look a lot like this amazing new Hair Fair 2014 Exclusive from ICONIC. The Icon is the ultimate in huge and curly love, the hair base has those lovely little baby hairs we all lust after, and the flexi-curls move with bounce and flow. I am just so in love with this style I can't say enough good things about it. It combines all the best things about modern hair in Second Life. It hair a lovely tattoo layer base, a HUD for selecting from heaps of brilliant textures, a mesh base with all these layers of amazing flexi spiral curls. It made me think of the 70s with fondness, and that is where the rest of the look comes in.

While my SL Kitchen is getting installed, I decided to head out for a little shopping on one of my favorite SIMs of all time, Tableau. I love the color and the design of this SIM, it always seems to perk up my mood, which is much needed lately. My RL twin sister, known in SL as Anessa Stine has been quite ill and in hospital, and I am worried about her, and her little guy, my nephew who is being shuttled about quite a bit. When I get stressed, I usually need a little escape, and SL is a great one. I'd like to think this is one of my better head to toe looks, I rather love the over-sized denim shirt from Overhigh, and this great new hair from ~Tableau Vivant~ is just lovely. I finally got a chance to put on this darling Atomic Necklace and Earrings set from [Fetch]. I adore that it is scripted so that you can mix and match your metals to get the set just right for your look. Tomorrow I will be setting up my Kitchen, so wish me luck and hand me the fridge magnets!

It's Kitchen Delivery Day, and Daisy and I wait on the front porch for the moving van. I can't wait for my first full kitchen to be delivered so I can begin baking up a storm. I have been collecting recipes all over the grid, and will be baking for friends and my new neighbors too. I opted to go casual with a great pair of cut-offs from Maitreya and a simple but functional tank from DRIFT. The tank top is HUD controlled with a dozen color/pattern options, and works well as a separate with almost any mesh or non mesh bottoms. New .ploom. hair for SUMMERFEST 2014 is perfect, and looks even sweeter with an itty bitty bow headband from {Mango Cheeks}, available from a Gacha at the Hello Sunshine Event. Daisy seems to be more patient than I am by far.

Everyone has their own reasons for supporting a charity like the American Cancer Society, which is where the monies collected from the Fashion For Life Event are directed. I could tell you about family members, or patients I have cared for in my nursing practice, there are very few people who have had the good fortune to not know a single person fighting the battle against this often deadly opponent. But yesterday, the reason I am supporting Fashion For Life (FFL) this year in particular became crystal clear.
While I was away from Second Life for almost four year, I missed a lot of wonderful things. But as it turns out, I also missed something that broke my heart. Squinternet Larnia, one of my acquaintances and a merchant on my former SIM Retrology, left this life to move on to take her place among the stars. She had been battling cancer, and had been struggling with extensive palliative care costs, when her dear friends in SL organized a fundraiser to try to help her. I missed all that, I was away and did not know. Yesterday, when I reached the MIAMAI shop, I noticed some Donna Flora designs, and read the signs beside the lovely dresses there. I was completely crushed when I read about Squinternet, or 'Squint' as her friends call her. I cried for the longest time, because it suddenly hit me. How fragile and precious life is, how people can pass on to whatever comes next without us even knowing, and how the connections one can make in a virtual world can outlive those who leave this world behind.
Be at peace dear Squint. You were a generous, kind, sweet, and caring person, and you are missed by so many. Your talents live on in the work you did, the items I still treasure in my inventory. Your spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure and joy of knowing you, even just a little bit. I dedicate this year's posts for FFL on my blog to the memory of someone I did not know well, but knew well enough to know her loss was as senseless and shattering as the loss of anyone to the disease we call Cancer. And that is why we need to support the causes that matter to us, we can help the research along to assist in the search for a cure, not just for those we love, but for those who have so much to offer our world if only given the chance to live.
This dress, Noemi, was one of the last works that Squinternet Larnia collaborated on with her dear friend Monica Outlander. It is so stunning, I would have bought it no matter who had made it, but knowing it was part of Squint's final work in SL makes it so much more precious. You can only find this item at Fashion For Life. It's price is a 100% donation to the Relay For Life of Second Life charity. It comes in several colors, but this Silver version struck me as the perfect way to celebrate Squint's work. She was a star, and I have been able to capture just a little bit more of her loveliness with this treasure.
