Berry's 20 Questions Meme

Berry's 20 Questions About SL Meme - New Post at Second Life Fashion Addict

Once again, Strawberry Singh (Berry) has come up with a great list of questions to get us all thinking about our Second Life in a new way. I decided to get in on the action and participate once again, because this is a sort of Therapy for me and gets me out of the 'click, click, post' mode of blogging. Remember to share your answers on Berry's blog so other's can take a look at your answers and vice versa.
Berry's 20 Questions About SL Meme - New Post at Second Life Fashion Addict

Meme instructions: Answer the following 20 personal questions about your Second Life. Don’t forget to share a link to your post in the comments on Strawberry Singh's Blog!
  1. When and how did you discover Second Life? I was watching the news one night and there was a feature about Second Life, they showed various aspects of 'Role Play' groups, and that's what I thought SL was, just different communities of RP with no set game, which worked for me because I am terrible at most games.
  2. Did you know about virtual worlds before or was this your first experience with them? Second Life was my first experience with Virtual Worlds, I didn't really know anything like it existed prior to my going in-world to have a look around.
  3. Has Second Life met your expectations? Yes and No. It has exceeded my expectations as far as the amazing creativity of individuals and the wonderful friendships I have made, the connections with others. It still fails to meet some of my basic expectations as far as the mundane issues and problems that make the platform difficult for most people to access based on tech and systems shortcomings with graphics and memory, speed, etc.
  4. If you could teleport back to the first ten minutes of your avatar’s slife, what would you tell yourself? Take a deep breath, take your time, don't buy those lindens so quickly, really look around.
  5. How long did it take you to master avatar flying and driving vehicles inworld? I have yet to master walking, so flying and driving are out of the question. I am a complete SL klutz.
  6. Do you have a mystery alt? Not really a mystery, but I have several alts, I don't use them anymore, I did once for business and SIM management when I had Retrology, but I like being me.
  7. Is your SL avatar a reflection of you, or someone you wished you could be? Lately I change my skins, hair color and eye color daily, the only thing I don't change is my shape. I suppose Kets is me when I was about 21, except a lot taller. Now she reflects my ever changing moods and emotions more than a single ideal.
  8. Is there an individual you met in SL that inspired you in your RL? How? Draco Tatsu, my first real love, has inspired me more than anyone else in my whole Second Life. The relationship may have ended, sadly, but he made me want to be a better person in both SL and RL. If I have learned anything about how to love someone well, I learned it from him, and I will miss him for the rest of my life, both first and Second.
  9. Do you feel it is easier to create stronger bonds/relationships with people you meet inworld as opposed to the real world? I think you can feel a strong bond with someone you have just met in SL, but only when you actually hear a voice or see their face can you verify that it is real and right. It's hard to get that 'gut' level response in chat, people can be very charming and then turn out to be complete strangers.
  10. Did you ever imagine or believe people could fall in love with someone they never met before Second Life? I think people can, and do fall in love in SL, but I think that is why it can be dangerous and wonderful at the same time. I know people who have forsaken a real life partner for someone they met online, and those who are in love even when married or committed to someone in their first life and have to hide those feelings. It can ruin a family unless you set up ground rules for yourself.
  11. How has your perspective of dating changed (or not) since you started playing second life? Absolutely, I think you can meet wonderful people from all over the world, and if you are lucky, they can become part of your real life. It is not easy though, it is almost always a long-distance relationship and that is a hardship in the end.
  12. How has your perspective of employment changed (or not) since you started playing second life? I am lucky to know people that support themselves on the work they do in Second Life, and I think that is incredible, to have that kind of dedication and endless creativity, to understand the technology and the changing landscape and still be relevant. It is a rare fit, but for some it works, and therefore is as valid as any career.
  13. Name three things in both your lives that overlap each other significantly. My love of creativity and art, my love of people, and my sense of joy when others are recognized for their true talents.
  14. If you could live your life more immersively in a virtual world, would you? (Kind of like the Matrix) I think I would, though I had been away from SL for a period of almost 4 years at one point. My real life is complicated with health problems and other challenges, escape is always welcome, but I know it can go too far. Sometimes I just wish I could be someone else or start fresh and whole again.
  15. How do you think behavior changes for people if they’re inworld vs in real world? Why do you think that is?  I know that the ability to lie, deceive, and be cruel is amplified and even accepted by some inworld, in the real world there are often social consequences for these things.  For some, they can be free to express their true nature, sexuality, and creativity free from judgement, and that is a wonderful thing. I just wish that the good thing were more easily transported out of Second Life.
  16. How has second life consumerism changed your perception of spending habits, the value of money, the need to be “bleeding edge” with fashion? I have a horrible need to horde lots of tiny and cute things in SL, and collect shoes and accessories and wigs like they are diamonds. I spend more than I can afford most of the time, and it is a dangerous situation for me sometimes. But when I spend my spare money inworld, I don't usually buy things in the real world, so it balances out.
  17. Do you think virtual worlds like SL drive and redefine human interaction or do they narrow and limit it? I think that SL itself can redefine human interaction, the satellite modes of communication, such as Plurk, Facebook, and Twitter can narrow or limit things. It is all in how you choose to express yourself and what you value, not all interaction is good interaction, and toxic people are everywhere. You need to protect yourself from negative people in general.
  18. If technology progressed tomorrow to allow you to send emotions to people the way you’d send text or voice messages, would it enrich your SL experience or infringe on it? I think emotion is completely natural and real in Second Life, and other's being able to know how you are feeling can only help interaction. It may also make you a target in your weaker moments, so you need to guard yourself more.
  19. Name three skills you attribute to having learned or honed in second life alone. I have learned more about PhotoShop and other graphic design programs, I learned how to broadcast as a DJ and all the software required to support that hobby, and I have learned about Copyright Infringement and the DMCA, and am more aware of the surrounding issues, for good and bad reasons alike.
  20. If your grand kids googled your Second Life Avatar’s name, would they be intrigued, disgusted, proud or something else? I think they would be surprised, they would likely find my early SL hysterical, but they would get to know a part of me that very few people have been privy too, an honest emotional and real part - surprisingly.

Jive Bunny

Look Of The Day [January 2, 2009] 1

Sometimes, you buy something on impulse, not knowing if you will ever wear it, just wanting it. That is how I came upon this adorable Jess Hat/Hair style from Draconic Kiss. It was back at the Hair Fair, I would say I averaged about 80% impulse buying while there, and I sometimes come to regret it. But not this one. How great is a hat that is scripted not only to change textures and colours, but also shape? I think very!

Look Of The Day [January 2, 2009] 2

I have loved this sweater from Nylon Outfitters for ages, and have had it so long I can't remember when I got it, but I had never thought of tinting it before. I pulled on the Grey version of the Knitted Sweater and tinted it up lavender to match with the hat. The loose knit has holes that lend it to wearing a basic tank underneath, so I used one from *Thimbles*, part of a set because it happened to be nicely finished with an undies layer bottom edge that looked great with the low rise []::TULI::[] Jenny Jeans. I love the character of these jeans, the worn out shredded holes and the hand-prints, very funky. I have to mention these *REDGRAVE* Girls Biker Boots, because I simply can't get enough of them. They were sent to me as review copies, and I would otherwise be lusting over them endlessly. I just think they look brilliantly worn in and real, and they are precisely the kind of urban grunge gear that makes my heart go pitta-pat. The bag is a treasured find from Nerdy Birdy, no longer available as far as I can tell, but I couldn't resist the Bunny Mechanics Bag with the hat, so i went for it. The Choker and Bracelet are separates from (Shiny Things) one of my favorite places for accessories, the Niko pieces are wonderfully detailed.

Look Of The Day [January 2, 2009] 3

Skin is Crys from PXL, a darker one then I am used to, one of the reviews that Hart Larsson sent me months ago, but I think it is lovely, and like the idea of dappling in a sun kissed tone every now and again. Eyes are from Miriel, and Lashes are from Cake. Again, the fabulous Jess Hair/Hat combo from Draconic Kiss was my inspiration, so I decided to show you the other two options for the hat shape. Be it a jive Bunny, Kitty, or Mouse... remember to have a little fun with your look, impulsive ain't all bad!

A Little Less Conversation

Every four weeks, we have a "That 70s Event" party at PIN UPS. I spin some Retro Disco and 70s Rock and we all have a blast, it's just fun to listen to "YMCA" and "The Hustle" and not have to pretend you hate it. It is pure fun, and I love getting my Retro looks together. Yesterday, I decided it was time to pull out the Disco Diva... and was so looking forward to wearing this look from "BARE@ROSE Tokyo". I was thrilled when they released it a couple months ago, and one of the main reasons I love to tell people to shop there, is because the prices are insanely low, the outfits are detailed nicely, and that often you get many colour options in one pack. This look called the "Disco Star" came in 4 colours in one box, and since they were transfer, I passed on outfits to a couple of the PIN UPS GIRLS. I loved this brilliant yellow one the minute I put it on, and so it was the "Keeper" for me.

I felt great the minute I put this look on, but needed the perfect shoes to match the sheer volume of the Bell Bottom pants. I remembered checking out the On Your Toes blog this week, and my RL sister had reviewed these great 'Daphne' Shoes from "SIN". I literally TPd down to the Retrology Location in my bare feet to grab them... they are perfection for this look! The 70s' were all about BIG Hair, so I always put this Curly Hair from "Nylon Outfitters" on if I can work it. A little cute from "Rave Nation" in the form of this 'Guitar Necklace' and I swear I was channeling Elvis! I could feel my hips start to wiggle!

Week 5: Flickr SL - Look Of The Week Winner!

For Week 5, The Winning Submission just oozes Personality! Submitted by Mira Raymaker, this look is relaxed, kitschy, and fun! The photo is brilliantly framed by the colourful setting, and it is so eye catching, it really stood out in the stream for me. Again, all the elements of a winning entry are present, the details are there so you can go hunt down what you love about this look, and it combined the work of many talented designers for that "One-Of-A-Kind" Look. You can tell by looking at it that Mira is adorable and silly, and has fun with her wardrobe, which is the whole point! Mira wins the $500L weekly prize for her "Look Of The Day" Submission, and a Hardy "Woot Woot!". Another tough call this week, and as more members join the flickr group Second Life - Look Of The Day, I have my work cut out for me! Keep those great looks coming, you too Men... we need to see what you are wearing too! Don't forget the details. Can't wait to see what comes in the door this coming week, another $500L gift from yours truly up for grabs next week!

Passion for Purple

A Cozy Purple Wrap Sweater (with Brooch) from "Nylon Outfitters" makes this look Soft and Cuddly while still Sexy and fun. Nylon is great for Handpainted clothing, and I love to pair it up with some photoreal looks to acheive a really unique effect. These glasses, from /artilleri/ are the perfect match to this almost bookishly sexy look, and I must admit now that I own all of Antonia Marat's eyewear in fatpack for the endless colour and style options. Some sculpted flats from L&E give a little polish and a lot of class to this casual look.

Disco Diva!

Disco Diva Time for “That 70s Event” @ PIN UPS! Yup, free skin time again. This skin was a freebie included with a dress I purchased at the opening of TULI in the New Caliah MUSE Plaza. I actually was surprised how much I likes it, and don't think it was too drastic a change in look for me. Hair from "Nylon Outfitters" is usually hit or miss with me, becuase some of the alpha texture stuff does weird things on my screen, but this Flip is so FABULOUS! "Ivalde" is my GO-TO for fab Retro looks from all era's, and this 'Toril' Pansuit is so Disco Fab! Playing dress up is too much fun!

Tom Boy

My "Tom Boy" Look for the Gender Bender Event @ PIN UPS. Both the Top and the Jeans were originally Items I purchased for my husband Draco, that were then discovered to be no transfer... whoops! Oh well, instant costume. My favorite part of this look, the fact that Draco didn't know I was already in my costume, and just thought I looked cute! BTW, KK Outfitters seriously makes the best chucks in SL, and Draco has them in all colours!
