Hold On To The Things You Love!

Look Of The Day [Feb. 14/10] 3

There is one thing I know for certain about my Second Life®, is that nothing is for certain. By that I mean that one day you discover a shop that has precisely your style of clothing, the kind of stuff you wish you could yank through the screen and wear out in your everyday life, and the next day, it is simply gone. Sometimes there is an explanation, a warning, a rationale, others, they simply disappear one day never to be seen again. Sometimes it is a matter of time and trends, people lose interest in the game or the product, and others it is the difficulty of keeping a business afloat in an over-saturated market. If you can't make enough to cover your rent, it is difficult to keep creating, and even more difficult to imagine that the situation will get better in the future. In my three plus years in Second Life®, I have seen a lot of fabulous shop disappear for a number of reasons, and it never gets easier. That is why I hold on to the things I love and treasure, and why my inventory is nearing the 45,000 items mark. How can I part with the items that are irreplaceable?

Look Of The Day [Feb. 14/10] 2

This look is what I call "Typical Kets". I love this sort of grunge, relaxed, cozy look. A lot of my favorites, some old, some new, and some irreplaceable. The top is from *Sprawl*, Pushbutton Skolnick's now near-defunct shop, and perhaps one of my all-time favorites. It is The Darko Tee, a little homage to Donnie Darko, as a film buff, I couldn't resist. I love that Pushbutton has always gone to the trouble of putting everything on every possible layer. The jeans are the uber adorable Surf Couture Hot Cocoa Stained Jeans in Grey that include the Blue Steaming Mug of Cocoa, and the cozy Parker Knit Boots in Black are also from [SC]. I adore this wrapped Soon Scarf from my girls at *Thimbles*, it is adorable and really cozy looking, and it comes in 5 different great knit colors. The Grey Knit Arm Warmers are from Argyle, another shop that seems to have vanished from the scene. The belt is one of the amazing masterpiece works from Maitreya.

Look Of The Day [Feb. 14/10] 1

The earrings are the first I ever purchased in-world, so their availability is somewhat unclear, and I didn't have enough time to hunt them down, they are from Drifting Sands which was a shop found under The Body Politik banner. I remember when I bought them I had no idea how to manipulate linked objects, and it took me forever to position them in my ears. The Uma Nose Stud is from Tickled Pink, a shop that has been gone for some time and is well missed. The adorable ring is a little bit of kitsch from Canimal, something I can never resist. The Bear Hug Novelty Ring has been referred to as the "Poo" ring by friends who think that is what it looks like from afar, I think it is hysterical!

Hair is from the newly re-opened WAKA and YUKI, which I could not resist visiting yesterday not just to scoop up the fab opening weekend gifts and try the lucky board, but because I couldn't remember shopping there before. I picked up this adorable NEW116 style while I was there, I think it is perfection in a messy casual up-do, my favorite. The skin is Emma Tan from *REDGRAVE*, my most realistic looking skin perhaps, and one I would have never tried if not for Anessa's urging. The Lashes are from MMS, now LeLutka, Thora Lashes, which I love, and the eyes are the stunning Miriel Realistic Muted Hazel Eyes. Again, I am most sad to say that we are no longer able to purchase Miriel's amazing work in-world.

So on Valentines Day, the day we celebrate love, show a little love by re-visiting your favorite shops and supporting your favorite content creators, before it's too late. They are too valuable to lose, and too precious to be taken for granted for even a second. Thank goodness for my messy but full inventory, and blog feeds, Plurk, and Avatars United, that lets me keep up with so many of my friends and on top of the news. If you haven't heard of Avatars United as of yet... you are missing out! It is the Facebook for avatars, recently acquired by Linden Labs®, that focuses squarely on your avatar, not on your RL identity, and therefore keeps your privacy to yourself while allowing you to make friends and network with avatars from SL and other MMOs. In The Trenches.

Look Of The Day [Dec.13/09] 1

There is nothing more exciting then discovering forgotten purchases in your inventory. Six months away from SL has made this a new trend for me. I may be showing items that have been available in-world for a long time, but they are just as good now as ever, and maybe more-so, they may remind you of some of the hidden gems you haven't worn since last season. This AOHARU Simple Trench Coat is a perfect example. I pulled it on, and just adore the almost gunmetal steel blue color of it, it got me working to pull a great look together around it.

Look Of The Day [Dec.13/09] 3

I picked up a great black shirt at Surf Couture yesterday, and decided to add a dash of something new, it is the "I'm A Little Bit Country" top, which comes in too many great colors, but I chose the black one on a whim. I pulled on the amazing (Kari & TW) Black New School Jeans, and a simple pair of stockings from Petit Ange in Black. Both wardrobe staples for me. When I went looking for boots, I was thrilled to find these ETD Shoes Kristen Booties in an almost perfectly matched color to the Trench Coat. Instead of going with a necklace, I opted for this amazing *Sprawl* Dotty Scarf, just a nice detail, and scripted for color change. I heart me some *Sprawl*.

Look Of The Day [Dec.13/09] 2

Pulling in some other accessories, I went with a great bag from Baiastice, a ring with scripted color change stone from (Luc) Fashion Jewelry, and a fabulous watch from (Caroline's). The (Caroline's) Jewelry Rock Candy Watch has 3 band color options, including a hot pink, three metal options, and the ability to turn brightness on and off. It actually functions, the hands turning and ticking through the hours. I really love the way it looks on, and it is jazzy enough to be a great bracelet substitute.

Another wig I loved at first sight has been waiting for me to wear since the Hair Fair. Sari's Hanami Dreads come in a beaded and un-beaded version, I chose the plain version this time. It is adorable, not too crazy big, and I love the loose dreads, so funky. The skin is a favorite from -AnaLu-, the lashes are Lelutka's Thora Lashes, and the eyes are the brilliant but no longer available Miriel. So now I am back to rediscovering what is actually hiding in my giant *NEW* folder, and you never know what I am going to come up with next. Back to the trenches folks.

My Way Out

Look Of The Day [March 15/09] 1

Sometimes, you just want to get away. Things get confusing, you lose sight of who and what you are about and what really matters. I have been feeling this way a lot lately. Things I thought would last forever have slipped away, things I thought mattered don't seem to be as important, and I am looking for meaning in my life again. While I may not be able to take a physical break from my reality, I can certainly take the time away from my regular routine and let my mind run away a bit, trying to find the answers to the questions that I suddenly have. This look is back to basics, the sort of thing I would be wearing around the city. This look says comfort and warmth, and is something I would wear when looking for a place to hide and nurse my wounds. This sweater is my favorite part, I think Pushbutton's new *Sprawl* brand is brilliant, and The Almanac Sweater in Cardinal looks like a well loved, well worn favorite. I layered it over one of the /artilleri/ Zee Tank Tops, and paired that with a great Black denim Jean from (Kari & TW).

Look Of The Day [March 15/09] 2

With cuffs on the sweater, there was no need for bracelets, but I did find a nicely matched Bohemian inspired necklace from Bonita's Jewelry that really worked well with this look. The colours were perfect, and I find that there are lots of hidden treasures at Bonita Popinjay's Jewelry, you just have to have the fortitude to find them among her huge inventory of items in her shops. I am wearing my favorite brow piercing from ITF, and also a sentimental ring from Caroline's Jewelry. One of my favorite handbag's is this Jaden bag from Cachet (now LeLutka), I own it in two colour variations, it is that fabulous. I am wearing the boot bases from a brilliant pair of (Shiny Things) Old Lace-up Boots, they are prim shoes I have had for almost two years, and they make me feel very grounded.

Look Of The Day [March 15/09] 3

Truth Hawks makes some of the sweetest wigs on the grid, and on my last visit I was over the moon to find my two favorite shades, black and white in the same colour pack once again. This sweet TRUTH double pig-tail style with hat is called Babyhoney, and it is perfection down to the stitching on the cap. The skin is another of Ana Lutetia's mods, the lovely -AnaLu- *InRainbows* series, and I feel very at home in these skins, the complexion is lovely and the brows are natural and soft, the coloured eye make-up is perfect with the soft full lips. Lashes are from MMS, now LeLutka, and eyes are from Miriel.

I am looking for my way, even if that means My Way Out.

I Turn My Camera On

Look Of The Day [December 4/08] 1

Back on December 4th, 2008, when I took these photos, the feeds were all a buzz with this amazing .+*Fuka*+. hair and hat combination from Mirai Style. I decided to wait to make this post, knowing that in time, as with most things, eventually it would be less blogged and more interesting to people seeing it for the first time. And so I waited, and waited, and waited, and well, it is just not likely that love for this great wig is going to melt away before the snow does, so here I am. It is a great style, and the hat is just so sweet. It is scripted to not only give you several monotone colour options, but several patterned versions as well, and you can work it with so many cute looks. By now I think most people know where to find it, but if you have never been to Mirai Style to check out this and so many other great wigs, you really should take a trip.

Look Of The Day [December 4/08] 2

I have been a fan of Pushbutton Skolnick's fashions for as long as I can remember, discovering PBI pretty early on into my virtual life. Her new brand of *Sprawl* is just a fabulous new incarnation of the type of grunge and hand painted styles that I have come to know and love. This Camera Shy Tee is a great basic top, but once again is so much more wearable because *Sprawl* offers clothing on all possible layers, including a tucked version. I am all for covered tummies in the winter time, and finding a long-sleeved tee that is not on Jacket layer but rather on a shirt and undies combo is like finding inventory gold when you want to layer up with a jacket. I really does sit at the top of my designer wish list, I love being able to play with layers. I tucked the too into a favorite pair of Cupcakes Side Button Jeans, a nice worn-in looking denim. One of the best parts of this look are the amazing AOHARU WALK Nostalgia Knit Boots in the Brown Bear version. The are simply adorable, look so cozy I want them on my RL feet, and just a great casual seasonal boot. I threw on a great basic Bucket Bag from (Shiny Things), a really nice bohemian touch, as well as a simple Chain Necklace with Woodstone Beads from Bonita's Jewelry, for a little more polish.

Look Of The Day [December 4/08] 3

The skin is Celestial Studios Charmed Line, which remains a favorite almost 22 months after I first discovered them. I really am just such a fan of the eye-brows on this skin, as well as the fantastic eye and lip make-up selection, which is pretty extensive. This is Starley's older range, and her newer lines have more luminosity and realism, but I think I am just happy with the hand-painted look and they just fit with my personal aesthetic. I am kinda thrilled about the fact that I don't know anyone else that wears these skins on a regular basis, looking unique is something I am rather proud of. Love Lashes are from [Detour], and Glassy Mustard Green Eyes are from Freak Fantasia.

Gaucho Marks

Look Of The Day [Nov.14/08] 3

On my last trip to Celestial Studios, I stocked up on all my Charmed Skins, making sure I had all of them, since they are my trademark look, and the one that makes me feel most like myself. This purple Violicious skin inspired this look, I love the punky burst of colour, and decided to go with matching hair from the phenomenal Eat Rice!. This Stellar style is scripted so the front portion can be made one of several great manic panic colours. Lashes are also from Celestial Studios, and Realistic Brights Brown Eyes are from **[Riddle]**.

Look Of The Day [Nov.14/08] 1

I wanted to work with some of the clothing I have had for a while, but this great Sprawl Bricolage top in Grey is a great sheer blouse with all the layer options you could ever want. Pushbutton Skolnick's new line is really fantastic, and I am glad I nabbed a bunch before my funds totally bottomed out. Make sure you check the Sprawl shop out. I have had these great Gaucho Pants from BP* for a long time, but never really knew how to wear them. I think they work well with this layered look. I threw on some knit socks from [MG Fashion], and went with a monochrome leg look with Black Dune Boots from Maitreya. Since I am on the modest side, I wore a classic bra from House of Nyla under the Blouse, it gives the look a little more class and depth.

Look Of The Day [Nov.14/08] 2

I added a few punky accessories with Canimal's Picture Pendant, scripted to click through about 10 different cute designs. I pulled in a big bangle from ~*Fresh Baked Goods*~, the Jelly Gem Donut Bangle is scripted to change base and gem colours, and can be matched to almost any look. A Pouch Belt from ::MEZZO:: gives added interest at the waist, with cute little skull charms it is really a nice touch of kitsch. A big ~flirt~ Amythyst in Platinum Tiffany Ring pulls in another dash of purple to round out the look. Having fun with a dash of colour makes me oh so very happy.

Back To School...

Look Of The Day [November 4/08] 1

Last night, I was positively crackling with anxiety and hope, watching the US Presidential Election returns. I am not American, but as a Canadian, a part of a country that is the largest trading partner with the US, and an allied country, this election was as important to me as any that I have known in my own country. I am proud of the energy and hope that I saw in the Democratic process south of the border, and I am inspired. There is no doubt that the battle has just begun for the US and the world, rebuilding financial stability and looking for peaceful resolutions to our differences. We all need to go back to the books, to learn lessons from the past and find hope for the future as we begin to tackle the challenges in our collective path. Saving the environment, ending war, and bringing health and stability into the lives of the most vulnerable in society. I know that my views may not be popular with everyone, there is a healthy dose of socialism in our Canadian Constitution, and I am not ashamed of it (though my father heartily disagrees). I respect the rights of others to differ in their beliefs and values, but we are, after all, in this together. So I am hopeful that the future will bring new ideas and new solutions, and though there will be setbacks, I feel that the tide has turned for the first time in my adult life. Clearly, I am no speech maker, and should stick to the pretty pixels I blog day in and day out, but I just felt the need to express myself, I hope you will afford me this luxury.

Look Of The Day [November 4/08] 2

Back to the business of stroking my addiction to virtual fashion, this was the look I put together while anxiously awaiting last nights results. I wanted to be comfortable, ready for action, and ready to learn what might be. I went for casual and grunge, my personal favorite way to dress day-to-day. The look started with the great .:Naive:. Rebel Condition Pants that have a very cool burnt out look to them. I pulled in one of the great tops to be found at the new shop *Sprawl*, this wicked Hearts and Guitars Tee, which comes on all layers as always with Pushbutton Skolnick's work, and is one of the most appreciated features. I love being able to wear tucked in tops and work with layers. The Pink Leather Jacket from ::DUTCH TOUCH:: worked really well here with the colour of the stripes in the pants, I love open jackets that let you see the details of the items underneath. The slacks extend to mid-calf, so I pulled on these great Maitreya **Boot-alicious** Ash boots with a leg-warmer like calf portion, they worked really nicely here. I love to wear my WRONG Braces, or suspenders, when I remember to. This Checkerboard set is my favorite, and comes with a non-prim jacket layer set as well as this great prim set that works with dozens of pairs of jeans and pants.

Look Of The Day [November 4/08] 3

I pulled in a great Tote Bag from Gritty Kitty, it is scripted to change to one of several brilliant textures with just a click. love the little hanging key chain and the buttons on the bag, so I decided to pull in a few more pins with this Eclectic Accessories Kitten and Skull Badge set. The chunky Double Bangle is one of a huge and inexpensive fatpack from ::MEZZO::, with about a dozen colour variations in the pack. I am really embracing the hat and hair combos lately, and this is one of the best yet, the Panache ZF and Kari collaboration produced this great Girls School Hair, also available in a men's version. The cute little braids sticking out from underneath the side of the hat are really sweet. A favorite skin from Celestial Studios, eyes from Miriel, and lashes from [Detour] complete the essentials.

A Touch Of Sunday Denim

Look Of The Day [October 22/08] 1

When hopping about the grid this chilly October weekend, be it hunting or shopping, or both, you need to have a look that is casual and comfortable, and ready for action. This fabulous Vintage Leather Jacket from ::DUTCH TOUCH:: had been in my inventory forever, and I love the weathered rust colour of it, great for layering over a cozy thermal, this one from Tres Blah. The Vintage Floral Thermal in Plum is one of a fatpack of lovely shades I picked up at the Starlust Motel during the recent wee fundraiser for Crystyle Bukowski. I love the button details on the neckline, and the cute floral print. All the colours are equally delicious. This relaxed pair of New School Jeans from the Kari and TorridWear collaboration are really wonderful. I love the hand-drawn elements, and the pack is reasonably priced, coming with both Black and the Blue version shown here. The set is Unisex as well, so everyone can partake.

Look Of The Day [October 22/08] 3

I really had fun with these accessories, starting with this great *Sprawl* Library Necklace. This is the Alice in Wonderland Version, with a tiny book that opens with a click. There are several version, but I couldn't say no to Alice. I rarely remember to wear glasses, and this pair of Onyxia Sunglasses from /artilleri/ are really classic. I always buy eye wear from /artilleri/ in fatpack, the colours are exceptional and the prices too good to pass up. Dark Mouse is one of the newest vendors on Retrology, and when I stopped in to take a peek after Mouse Mimstrobel set up shop, I couldn't resist this nifty Gold Paint Splashed Bangles & Earring Set. I think the earring is a delicate masterpiece, I really love the shape of it, and the bangle is nice and chunky, with fabulous textures. I pulled in a must-have Hobo Bag in Denim from Celestial Studios, as well as some complimentary Natasha Violet Boots from INSOLENCE to go with the Plum colour in the top I am wearing.

Look Of The Day [October 22/08] 2

Another fabulously cute short wig, this one is from [Curio], with the adorable name of Hipster. I love the texture on the White shade of [Curio] hair, and it is almost always a lower prim choice, simple and elegant are trademarks of the brand. Skin is Celestial Studios, from the Charmed Line, and Green Eyes are from Ibizarre, a steal with four shade variation for just $40 LaLas. Well, a hunting I will go, this time for more winning items on my list compiled from watching the feeds this week. Happy Sunday everyone!

Urban Sprawl

Look Of The Day [October 130/08] 1

I love a great coat, living in the Great White North, I have many in my RL closets, and in-world, I collect them like postage stamps. For some reason, many are plaid, not at all an easy pattern to work with on the mesh templates and prims, but when it is done well, it has a brilliant impact. This *Thimbles* The Angel of Your Plaid Nightmares Coat in Blackish is really a winner, coming in several colour versions, it is a great one for layering, with lots of options. I think my favorite part of all is the collar though, I love the height of it, and it is a really nice sculpt. I paired it with some newness from *Sprawl*, Pushbutton Skolnick's new line, which I greedily snapped up upon preview release. I love Pushbutton's work, it is always great value, fits my grungier style well, and it always has all the layer options you could ever want. This great Plain Therms top in White is an essential, with the great glove pieces that extend from under the jacket, it is really a perfect basic layering piece. Pants are also from *Sprawl*, The Treble pant in Ash has a nice baggy cuff, and works nicely over a boot base.

Look Of The Day [October 130/08] 2

Boots are from ETD Shoes, the Buckled Calf Boot in Black is one of the oldest prim boots in my inventory, and is still a favorite, and recently Elika released a new sculpted version in dozens of great colours. The bag is one I nabbed at Cachet recently, The Jayden Bag in Earth is a nice warm tones sculpted bag, I can never seem to get enough purses. I added on a similarly warm toned necklace from *PERSONA*, one of Myllie Writer's newer releases, the Polished Stone Sets Tiger Eye Necklace in the Bronze Setting. This is the shorter version, and works nicely with the collar of the coat. I added on a nice Natural Gold Bead Ring from Caroline's Jewelry to complete the accessories for this look.

Look Of The Day [October 130/08] 3

I have always adored hair from Maitreya, the styles are really unique, the textures beautiful, and of course they have an amazing white shade, my hands-down favorite. This amazing Nahla style was one I happened upon at the Hair Fair this year, and I didn't even try the demo before snapping it up, I think the long ponytail is fantastic, and the loose front frames the face so nicely, another winner from Maitreya. A favorite Canimal skin, some [Detour] Lashes, and eyes from Freak Fantasia round out the essentials. This look is perfect for the cooler fall weather, exploring the hunts all around the grid, and taking in a hunted house or two.
