Blah blah blah hood pun blah blah

Ok, my powers failed me with the title, but still, this outfit is a live-in-it keeper!

There are some things that are just winter wardrobe essentials and turtlenecks are one of them. I've heard people asking in various groups where to go on the grid for good turtlenecks and I now have the answer-- MYTH. Aeris Pinazzo shared with me her new line of turtlenecks and they are truly fab. The jewel-tone colors are amazing, but she has the basic black/ white/ grey covered too. And speaking of black/ white/ grey, while you are at MYTH picking up an armload of turtlenecks, you MUST grab these pants! Part of the Serena outfit, these adorable plaid pants just blow me away. I really love the stitching detail and the fact that you really could dress them up or down. I went with "down" here, pairing them with a super comfy hoody from Maitreya.

Since I was all about comfort here, I included everyone's favorite boots from Shiny Things, glasses from /artilleri/ and a fanny pack from Yummy. Just for fun, I also threw on the dice necklace from /artilleri/.

So a big Fashion Addict thank-you to Aeris for sharing her work with me again! I feel ready for anything my Second Life may throw my way.

Then and Now: A New Twist

We've all been having so much fun looking back. What did we look like in high school? How about in our early days of SL? Well, this begins a new theme for me. What if you live the past, but also need to keep one foot in the present? How does one handle that fashionably?

I recently became a resident of Caledon. Based on the Victorian era, this wonderful region has its own sense of culture and fashion. If you've never stopped by, definitely make it a priority. You won't be sorry.

Most residents choose to dress in 19th century attire. If you leave Caledon to travel to the rest of the grid, this can present a fashion conundrum. Of course you can stay in your period garb. One of the great things about SL is that you can go pretty much anywhere dressed as a vampire burlesque otter if you like. But what if you want to tweak your Victorian togs just a smidge?

For example, let's say I've put on this wonderful riding ensemble from Le Grenier du Chateau (All fashionistas should stop by this small store. Beautiful pieces!) I might be going riding in the wilds of Caledon Moors. Since that can be a tad drafty this time of year, I could add in the non-Victorian-but-how-cute-is-it coat from Coco. So, I'm riding along and having a lovely chat with Lady Turveydrop when I get an urgent IM from a friend who wants me to meet her new squeeze/ give an opinion on an outfit/ act as her wingman. Taking my leave of Lady T., I head home and change into . . .

. . . this. All I've done is change the top and the hair. Lucky for me, equestrian is hot this year, so the riding breeches are very fashion forward. In a flash, I'm ready for the grid at large.

I think this great hair from bp* really keeps the look from being too stuffy in a "Mummy bought me a pony" kind of way.

I'm excited about my new home and the opportunities this will bring. And I'm excited to mix up my posts here with the occasional bit of 19th century finery. Look for more "Then and Now" posts in the future. Now I must go. Tea with Miss Wopsie in 10 minutes!

Stop Me if You Think You've Heard This One Before

I really like this challenge from Sylvia Olivier. Basically, recreate your high school self.

How to create high school Nikk: Take two parts "Heathers," one part "Breakfast Club" and one part Bret Easton Ellis. Sprinkle liberally with The Smiths and just a pinch of "Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains."

I was one of the very few in my class who did not have really big hair and mouse rake bangs. I've always felt that the classic bob never goes out of style. And while I did own a "Frankie Says" shirt, my favored tops were my father's sweaters. I would take them and add vintage pins that belonged to my grandmothers, so Ki-Squared's Lady of The Pins sweater is just the thing. I also wore multiple watches at one time and when I saw Time Has No Meaning from Magika I almost died. I would also sport multiple black "jelly" bracelets, and also one that was actually some kind of washer or machine belt given to me by The Beautiful Boy Who Wore Bowling Shoes (picture young James Spader).

Now you might think that the Bax Cohen boots are an anachronism, but I did have boots almost like this, but they were white with geometric cutouts. I was just too cool for school.

Doing this challenge, I can almost smell the Aqua Net wafting from the girls' room and the Polo and Drakkar colognes from the boys' room.

The Details:
Sweater-- *Ki2*, Lady of The Pins in green
Tank-- fri.day Beater in black

*facepalm*

Since the New Year is a time of looking back as well as forward, I thought Sophia's challenge was a great idea. I searched through my inventory for the oldest skin, clothing, hair, etc. and threw them on.

Yeeeeek!

Interestingly, when I changed from old shape to new, it wasn't that different. For better or for worse, the face is the same. I'm a little shorter and curvier now, although that's hard to see here.

This is a good motivator to clean out my inventory as some of that stuff needs to never, ever see the light of day again.

Up next from me: another look back.

Picky Picky Picky

The title initially was just my "placeholder" in flickr and alluded to the neat picks in this Truth hair.

However, after I edited the photos and got everything pulled together for this post, I realized that there are (at least) two problems in the pictures. I could be a good blogger and put the outfit back on and start from square one, or I could decide that the problems are very small, the overall look is good, and I'm just being picky.

I totally went with option B. I hope you'll forgive me.

For me, this blog should be fun, and putting this look together really was! I don't have Kets' gift for color, so I'm really proud of the combination I came up with here. I love the lime green next to the plum and I think the brown/tan accents really play off both colors nicely.

This is one of those outfits where I wish I owned every piece of it in RL. I really, really love the sweater from Mischief and might have to knit up something similar. And the necklace from Zaara? WANT!

The point is, I love sharing these things and my point of view about them. It's not perfect, but it's still pretty darn fab.

Back to Life, Back to Reality

It's that time of year. The tree's come down, the parties are over, and winter stretches out in front of us in all its glorious greyness.

It's a time to dress in rich, deep, jewel-toned colors and glorious fabrics, and yet there's something to be said for comfort too right now. Who wants a fussy dress when you are cuddled under a blanket with spiked hot chocolate?

Christensia Parkin of Hyper Culture kindly shared this great Victorian Open Button dress with me. As a dress, it would be a very sexy club look, but I paired it with jeans and a tank for a winter go-anywhere-or-not look.

I absolutely love the texture of this top. The rich garnet color is so beautiful and the fabric design gives it a wonderful exotic touch. I could see pairing this with leggings or with a pencil skirt too. I love pieces that give me a lot of choices when I'm in a hurry to meet friends.

That same logic applies to these Periquita wedges. I blogged them before, but they were also the perfect shoe for this look. I would kill for shoes like this in RL. Literally. Do not get between me and these shoes.

My bracelet and necklace are from Zaara. I'm loving jewelry from there, especially some of her newer pieces, so expect to see some of that soon. The belt is Coco, and the bag is fleur and is color-change. The hair is fri.day's Tatum hair, and it really suits the laid back look here.

If you are already hitting the winter skids, get some rich colors, good friends, and perhaps some laced hot chocolate. Guaranteed to drive the grey away!
